Memorial service for Bird Peacock

We had a simple but beautiful memorial service for our departed friend today. We held a minute's silence for us to remember him in our own ways and after that made a toast to his memory.

31 (half his age) tealights were lit for him and flowers in H's favourite colours were scattered along the table.

C read a lovely poem which H had sent out (Funeral Blues by W.H. Auden) and I read a message from her to all of us.

There were some damp eyes and sniffles but secretly I thought he was having a good old guffaw at us and very chuffed that he was having this sent off from his old chaps. *(and I am using words which he used to use)* Poor old Bird to fall off his perch so suddenly. You never had the retirement you wanted!

Here is Bird with Fleabag aka Fleasy (found in a Brunei rubbish tip at 3 days old) - the dog who flew from Brunei to Singapore to Denmark and to London and driven in a car to Sussex.
